Hawthorne in Portland Oregon is an area of Southeast Portland that runs along SE Hawthorne Blvd., particularly between SE 28th and 50rd ave. It borders along the Ladd’s Addition and Buckman neighborhoods to the west and Mt. Tabor borders Hawthorne just to the east. Hawthorne Boulevard was named after Dr. J.C. Hawthorne, the co-founder of Oregon’s first mental hospital. The road was originally named Asylum Avenue, but in 1883 the hospital moved to Salem and the street was named in honor of Dr. Hawthorne
