Forest Park Elementary school in the Portland School District focuses on community interaction to create well rounded students. Located in the Forest Heights neighborhood, the school believes in teaching the “whole child” and to this end they offer a wide variety of activities to ensure a well rounded education. Forest Park’s students routinely score above the 90th percentile on Oregon’s state assessment tests. They offer Spanish and Mandarin Chinese classes after school in addition to offering electives in science, art and drama. Technology is infused throughout the curriculum to ensure that students can effectively navigate through an increasingly techno centric society. Forest Park offers Kidspace, a before and after school program as well as a TAG and special needs program. A sense of community is promoted thanks to their Reading Buddies program that pairs older and younger students. Students also get an up close and personal with the arts thanks to the school’s Artist in Residency program.

Parents at Great Schools appreciate the sense of community that permeates Forest Park Elementary, the PTA and the other volunteers are really dedicated to the students. They also feel that the teachers care about students and strive to help them individually. The overall parent review score was 4/5. Overall, greatschools.net gave the school 10/10.
