Abernethy Elementary- Vegetagble gardens for the school and teaches about healthy living.

Students at Abernethy Elementary, located in the historic Ladd’s Addition an Abernethy neighborhoods in the Portland School District get a unique learning experience. These K-5 students are taught about healthy living through the school’s on site garden which grows all the food for the school and is then prepared in their scratch kitchen.

This year-round schools provides a variety of classroom styles including mixed-age rooms, combination grade-level room, and single-grade-level classrooms to place students in the environment that they are most comfortable with. The school focuses on creating well rounded healthy children with the Character Education Partnership program which teaches youth to understand ethical values. Abernethy offers Art4life before and after school as well as a scouting program. There are computers in all the classrooms and an Artist in Residency Program as well. The school also offers a TAG program and is participating in Phase 1 of the Portland Education writing program.

The parent reviews on greatschools.net really appreciated the high level of involvement from the community as well as the well balanced education their children receive. Overall the school was given 4/5 by parent reviewers and a 9/10 overall.
