Ainsworth Elementary School – Focuses on a balance of art, media, technology, PE and music

Ainsworth Elementary School in the Portland School District located in Portland Heights neighborhood offers a balanced curriculum that focuses on a balance of art, media, technology, PE and music. The school’s goal is to enable its K-5 students to learn to be critical thinkers as well as self-manage their own behavior. Students are given individual instruction based on their specific needs. This has led to over 95 percent of Ainsworth’s third, fourth, and fifth graders s meeting or exceeding Oregon state reading and math standards. Throughout the year students are given the chance to interact with the community while working on service projects. After school activities include band and orchestra ,drama,Chess Club, a writers group,,Mad Science Classes and Environmental Club. Aisnworth is also the Portland School District’s starter school for the Spanish Immersion Program which extends through East/West Sylvan Middle School and Lincoln High School. Families relocating in or around Portland should be aware that entrance into the program is by a lottery system more information can be found on the Portland Public School s website.

Parental involvement is a large part of Ainsworth. Parents volunteer with the after school program as well as parent run enrichment classes. The parent reviews on greatschools.net applaud amount of parental involvement. They also note the high level of responsibility demonstrated by all the students. Overall they gave the school 5/5. The website itself rated the school 9/10. As the oldest continuously running elementary school in Portland Ainsworth is located in the historic Portland Heights Southwest Hills neighborhood at 2425 SW Vista in Portland.
