Bridlemile Elementary School – Sports teams, foreign language classes

Bridlemile Elementary School, located in the Portland School District primarily focuses on academics for its K-5 students. However, this focus is balanced by a wide variety of additional activities including sports teams, foreign language classes and other groups that are not sponsored by the school but take place there. Bridlemile has a large number of ESL students from a variety of countries. The school uses this fact to teach students to appreciate other cultures. Students are placed in flexible reading and math groups to provide personalized instruction as well as a large TAG program to keep advanced students challenged. Other academic activities include passport club, Battle of the Books, Lego Robotics, and Destination Imagination to give students a variety of ways to learn.. Students have specialized instruction in music and PE weekly and parents and family members provide presentations for the students. The school also offers a number of programs that pair older and younger students together to facilitate mutual learning.

Parent reviewers on greatschools.net appreciated the way parents are directly involved in the classroom. They also felt the level of personalized instruction and wide array of activities really helped students flourish. Overall they gave the school 5/5. The site itself gave the school 9/10.
