Buckman Art Focus School – Excellent neighborhood and school
Buckman Art Focus School in the Portland School District is located in the Buckman Neighborhood and as its name suggests is an Art Focus School. Those moving to Portland Oregon might want to take note as it is the only magnat arts school in the district. The school accepts neighborhood children as well as those from throughout the district through a lottery program. The arts are used to facilitate learning of traditional subjects like math and history and computer instructional use is present throughout the school. The school uses a hands on active-learning approach to teach its K-5 students and integrated learning experiences are infused with art. Also offered are a before and after school program, as well as SUN Community classes, and an indoor swimming pool. Buckman has a history success with its award winning ESL and At Risk Youth Program. Buckman also sponsors a SMART program to help younger students with reading. In addition two parents have received volunteer awards and several teachers have received recognition from Portland Public Schools.
Parents of students at Buckman praise the school on greatschools.net. They appreciate the unique art focus and the way it is blended with academics. They also enjoy the high level of parental involvement and the volunteer program which logs 13,000 hours annually. The parental reviews gave the school 4/5 and the website rated it 9/10 overall. I have been living off of my Organic fruit and vegetable garden for the last 25 years. I don\'t go produce shopping for 8 months of the year. I also have some of the most healthiest and happiest chickens from which I get fresh eggs daily.
