Duniway Elementary School in the Portland School District, located in the Eastmoreland Neighborhood strives to offer a balanced and comprehensive curriculum for its K-5 students. It is rated as “excellent by the Oregon State education department. In addition to classes like music and PE the school offers an ever changing lineup of electives, these have previously included foreign language, art, chess, crafts, cooking, drama, computers, first aid, math and science All 5th grade students may also enroll in the band program. Duniway uses a variety of reading strategies including Discipline Based Art Education as well as the STAR program which matches adults with children who have difficulty learning to read. Students also have access to Campfire Girl and Boy Scout activities as well as a PTA sponsored after school program The PTA is also responsible for foreign language instruction as well as the art program Duniway also boasts a large library with over 9,000 titles.

Parents who wrote reviews at greatschools.net felt that the teachers at Duniway go above and beyond and really take a personal interest in the student’s academic and personal lives. They also note the amount of involvement that the local parents put in to the school with programs such as art and the PTA sponsored after school care. The parental reviews balanced out to 4/5 while the website gave the school and overall 9/10.
