Mt. Tabor Middle School in the Portland School District, located in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood offers several distinct learning experiences. The 6-8th grade students at Tabor are split into smaller learning blocks to enhance learning and foster a sense of community between students. There is one mixed-age group, three traditional single grade groups, and a group for the Japanese Language Immersion Magnet Program.  Families moving to Portland that are interested in the Japanese Language Immersion Program should know that the program runs from K-12 and starts at Richmond Elementary and continues through Grant High School. A group for the Columbia Regional Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals as well as one for those with special needs. Several teachers focus on each group of students and work together to create a curriculum that focuses on academics and independent learning. After school activities include jazz band, volleyball, dance team, fencing, and knitting. Electives include Spanish, band, communications, art and computer technology.

Family involvement is integral to the learning process at Mt. Tabor. Parents volunteer in classrooms, assist with program development and help with fund raising. Parent reviewers on greatschools.net appreciated the special needs options at Mt. Tabor, they and other parents gave the school 5/5. Overall the website rated the school as 9/10. Located near the Mt.
