Skyline School – Excellent Portland school with great parental involvement

Skyline School is located in the Portland School District, it caters to K-8 students but the boasts only 270 students. Set in the hills in Northwest Portland in Cornelius Pass, Skyline focuses on literacy and math integrated with science, social studies and the arts. In addition students receive musical training, vocal and instrumental, PE and Spanish. The school’s rural location allows teachers to extend learning beyond the classroom and let students experience nature first hand. Teachers employ a variety of learning styles that varies between students. The arts are taught through resident artists, community speakers and parent volunteers. Skyline also offers classes that prepare students to enter the International Baccalaureate Program available at Cleveland High School and Lincoln High School. Before and after school care is available as well as additional activities including soccer, baseball, Scout programs, and chess club. Learning is also facilitated through the use of cross grade partnerships and activities that emphasize cultural diversity. Students with special needs are included in regular classrooms with special support.

Parental involvement in both the arts program and after school activities is a crucial part of Skyline’s extracurricular activities. In addition to parental involvement parents who wrote reviews on greatschools.net appreciated the dedication of the staff. They gave the school 4/5 and overall it received 9/10.
