Stephenson Elementary School, emphasis on music and arts, Portland style.
Stephenson Elementary School, located in the Portland School District, in the Arnold Creek Neighborhood places a strong emphasis on music and the arts. Higher-level thinking skills and creativity are built into the school’s K-5 curriculum that is built around an appreciation of the arts. The school offers both single and multi-grade classrooms that use thematic instruction to help integrate the curriculum. The music program includes a marimba ensemble as well as, choir, strings, and band. This is augmented by an ever changing array of after school classes including drumming, electric guitar, and drama. Additional activities include before and after school care, Scouts, Brownies, seasonal sports, and a Spanish Club. Stephenson features a computer lab that allows students to learn keyboarding and word processing as well additional basic skills. The school also features an extensive library that supports the literacy program and also allows students controlled access to the internet.
Parental involvement is crucial at Stephenson, without it there would be no after school program to speak of. Luckily the parents who reviewed the school on greatschools.net applaud the strong community that comes together to make Stephenson great. Located on land that was once a hops farm, Stephenson Elementary school is located at 2627 SW Stephenson in Portland in the Arnold Creek Neighborhood. I have been living off of my Organic fruit and vegetable garden for the last 25 years. I don\'t go produce shopping for 8 months of the year. I also have some of the most healthiest and happiest chickens from which I get fresh eggs daily.
