Hollywood in Portland – Yes we have one too.

The Hollywood neighborhood close-in Portland in the Northeast, zipcode 97232 features many older Portland homes full of character and charm. It is a mix of comercial and residential with tree lined streets, covered porches, neighborhood shops and restaurants and the Portland famous Hollywood Theater.  Hollywood boarders the Baumont, Grant Park and Alameda neighborhoods.  The Hollywood Farmers Market is always a popular place to bring the family for the freshest of organic produce. The Sandy Blvd. strip is a thoroughfare where mid-century architecture, cheap ethnic restaurants, bright signs and an eclectic residential base flow through the neighborhood.

Back in the 1930s, you could gaze eastward from downtown Portland and spot the huge, flickering sign at the opulent Hollywood Theater all the way out on Northeast Sandy Boulevard. Now that sign still flickers thanks to a $30,000 grant given to restore that sign. Some nice shops/restaurants to visit are The Rheinlander German Restaurant, Pal’s Shanty tavern, Tony Starlights Jazz music and Food, Fleur de Lis Bakery and Café, Hama Sushi, Hollywood Trader Joes, Bluefin Sushi Bar, and my favorite The Laurelwood Pizza and pub.
