Jackson Middle School – Known for its reputation as a Leonard Bernstein “Artful Learning” Leadership School.

Jackson Middle School in the Portland School District located in theĀ  Crestwood Neighborhood is loved by both parents and students. The reviews on Great Schools range from students who rave about how much they love the emphasis on art to parents who enjoy how easy it is to get in touch with administrators. Jackson enrolls 6-8th graders and pairs them up with a core group of teachers. These core classes literature, language arts, social studies, science, health and math are focused on but the students can choose from a variety of electives as well. The school is known for its reputation as a Leonard Bernstein “Artful Learning” Leadership School. It offers a unique approach that also allows students to specialize in vocal, instrumental or the more tactile arts. The advanced art class can often be found in the halls, not ditching class merely painting murals for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to their emphasis on art, the school offers Jackson Club a program managed by Stephenson Child Care Association designed to give students a positive place to go before and after school. For students having difficulty with math or reading Jackson offers a mentor program that pairs students together to enhance the learning process. In addition all Jacksons teachers are trained to emphasize the artistic process to further help the students learn. Jackson is located at 10625 SW 35th Avenue, in Portland in the Crestwood Neighborhood. It was rated 9/10 on greatschools.net and was rated 5/5 by parents and students.
