Portland’s alternative school, Metropolitan Learning Center

Portland’s alternative school, Metropolitan Learning Center is located in the Nob Hill neighborhood and serves as a haven to promote experiential learning as a method of developing students’ skills. Serving grades K-12, the school offers a unique approach to learning that allows students to explore the subjects that interest them most, making it a great choice for families relocating to Portland.

The elementary program offers core academic subjects, while the middle school combines language arts, math, science, and social studies with weekly adventure and service activities. High school students build their own schedules, including co-ops at other schools, independent studies, work experience, and class at universities, colleges and art institutes.

All classes provide a small learning environment. Students have frequent conferences and are charged with compiling and presenting a portfolio of their learning on a yearly basis.

Metropolitan Learning Center received 8 out of 10 stars from the Great Schools website, and 5 out of 5 stars from parents of students enrolled there. The school is located at 2033 NW Glisan St, Portland, OR.
