Clark K-8 Binnsmead- Won the Portland Schools Foundation Award for Excellence in Education
Clark K-8 Binnsmead, in the Portland School District, in the Montavilla neighborhood started its full K-8 program during the 08-09 school year. Binnsmead focuses on an overall balanced education with emphasis placed on both academics and art. The school has a tradition of above average performance and has won the Portland Schools Foundation Award for Excellence in Education several times throughout the past decade. Students are given balanced amounts of time everyday for reading, math, and writing as well as other subjects , older students are also allowed to choose from various electives. Binnsmead is also a SUN school which means a variety of after school programs are available to students as well as parents. Student activities include soccer, bicycle club, Research Rangers and Girls Inc. Parents can take a variety of classes including cooking and English as a Second Language Classes. The school also sponsors an Immigrant and Refugee Education program) for our 4th – 8th grade students and their families.
The SUN program helps connect the school with the community which is something that parents really appreciate. According to parental reviews on greatschools.net the school is doing a good job getting back on track. Parental reviews rated the school 4/5 and overall it was rated 6/10 through the Great Schools.net website. I have been living off of my Organic fruit and vegetable garden for the last 25 years. I don\'t go produce shopping for 8 months of the year. I also have some of the most healthiest and happiest chickens from which I get fresh eggs daily.
