What Portland list would be complete without Powell’s Bookstore…
OK, so I walk in with a mission to find books on Organic gardening and Salmon fishing in Oregon. 10 minutes later I’m lost somewhere in-between European travel and cars from the 50′s. I could ask for help or read the directional board but I can figure it out. 10 more minutes later I wandered in the coffee shop and perplexed on how this happened. OK so I ask someone. This place is EPIC!!!
There is even a huge metal sculpture outfront across the street on Burnside. You need to at least swing and sway it once. It can be fun if you’re into that sort of thing.
Powell’s City of Books is an independent bookstore in Portland, Oregon, that fills a whole city block with more than a million new, used, and out of print books. It was a cute little storefront beginning in 1971 by Michael Powell, a University of Chicago graduate student. Powell’s Books has grown into one of the world’s great bookstores, with seven locations in the Portland area, and one of the book world’s most successful dot-coms (www.powells.com), serving customers worldwide. Powells Books is located in NW Portland at 1005 West Burnside Street in the Pearl District.

I have been living off of my Organic fruit and vegetable garden for the last 25 years. I don\'t go produce shopping for 8 months of the year. I also have some of the most healthiest and happiest chickens from which I get fresh eggs daily.
