Many Victorian homes are built in the late 1840′s – 1900′s. Portland Victorian style homes start around 1880′s. Victorian is a blanket term that covers many different homes styles. Gothic Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, Stick Style, Eastlake Victorian, Folk Victorian and Queen Anne are all architectural styles in the Victorian vein. Because there are so many different styles of Victorians it is hard to pin down characteristics that fit all of them.
