The Laurelthirst Pub – Live music, good food and great Beer.
Post #29 of 101 cool Portland places. The Laurelhurst Pub.
The Laurelthirst Pub in the Laurelhurst neighborhood is a great place to stop by after work, grab a beer, eat some good food and then just sit back, relax and listen to a local Portland band perform live music. One of my local favorites are the Freak Mountain Ramblers that perform every Sunday around 6:00. Check them out.

They have a great deluxe nacho’s plate, several awesome micro brew beers on tap and many locals that haunt this location. When I first moved to Portland, this was my very first place I walked into while staying at the Portland Hostel on Hawthorne. I lived in the Buckman neighborhood and walked to the Laurelthirst quite often as my new favorite pub. Enjoy and have an IPA on me.

The Goodfoot pub and lounge pool hall and live music.
Post # 18 of 101 cool Portland places – The Goodfoot Pub and Lounge.
I love the Goodfoot. It has been a staple of my nightlife activities since I’ve moved to Portland. I have the option of going upstairs and playing a few rounds of pool over a locally made brew and hummus plate while spacing out on great art or going downstairs and catching some groovalicious live music or some funktastic DJ jams.

The upstairs pool hall is always filled with amazing local artists completely covering all of their walls, just that alone makes relaxing in the booths an enjoyable spacecraft to be on. There are around six pool tables and a good selection of food and beer to choose from.
The downstairs, now that it is smoke free is a dark, moody and spacious area that hosts some of Portland’s finest musicians.
You can expect to find some good funk, bluegrass, rock, blues, hippie jams, and a few other focused varieties. I love going on Friday nights where funky DJs spin all night and I end up dancing ’til my feet are sore or I meet a lovely lady who sweeps me off of them.
For a great evening out with friends or on a first time date which is sure to impress, I definitely recommend The Goodfoot which is located in the Kerns neighborhood at:
2845 SE Stark St.

#3 – The Woods has Great Live Portland music
This is Post # 3 of 101 Cool Portland Places.
My new favorite venue to see live music definitely has to be to be The Woods. You feel like you are walking into this old-school building that has a feel of an western/morgue/party club and a hotel lobby from one of those old classic movies. There is a sweet chapel area for performances, as well as several smaller lounges and outdoor seating, including a covered smoking salon.
The Woods faces Milwaukie Avenue in downtown Sellwood, which is served by bus line 70, and is easily accessible from anywhere in Portland.
Some of my favorite Portland local bands have performed at the woods including Run On Sentence, Heroes and Villains and the Brothers Young.
Wine and Beer is served and for bookings live shows you can contact: Caroline Buchalter.
Expect to have a great evening at The Woods. Make it your monthly routine to support live music in Portland, and definitely give The Woods a try. The Woods is located in Sellwood neighborhood at 6637 Milwaukie Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97202.

#10 -Dante’s – Portland’s hot spot, features live music as well as more extravagant acts
Post # 10 of 101 cool Portland places. Dante’s.
Dante’s, a downtown Portland hot spot, features live music as well as more extravagant acts. The atmosphere is a bit dark and moody, but the drinks are good as well as the pizza. I have performed at Dante’s with my old band My favorite Pill, and I enjoyed the sound system and stage set-up. I have also seen many live acts and events, most recently was Karaoke from Hell, which was awesome. I was a bit too nervous to get up and sing Oh Darling! by the Beatles, so I just watched everyone else. I’m looking back now…. why didn’t I just go for it! Who cares if people would of laughed at me. Many now famous acts can trace their roots back to Dante’s including Storm and the Balls and the SuicideGirls Burlesque Troupe.

Dante’s opened in 2000 in an early 20th century building with an illustrious past as a brothel, speak-easy, and a 80′s punk club. Over the past ten years the bar has expanded from 3,000 to 7,500 square feet and features award winning pizza as well as a full bar. It is home to wide variety of music styles from rock and roll to cabaret.
The bar is open daily from 11am to 2:30 with pizza by the slice served until 3. It is a free Wi-Fi hot and a VIP balcony is available for rent. Dante’s is located in downtown near Old Town at 1SW 3rd and Burnside. For more information check out Dante’s website www.myspace.com/dantesportland. Looking for more Portland music venues? The Aladdin Theater, Southeast Portland’s intimate venue
The Aladdin Theater in Southeast Portland is a venue where well-known acts and new artists take advantage of the relatively small space to provide audiences with an intimate show. For over a decade the Aladdin has been playing host to a diverse group bands from Beck to Lez Zepplin. It has won numerous awards as Portland’s favorite live music venue and is sometimes likened to a “music church.”
Before its current incarnation as a live music venue, the Aladdin already had a long history. It began as a vaudeville house known as Geller’s Theatre, in the 1920′s. When talkies became all the rage it became a family movie house. During the 70′s it began to play pornographic movies which continued until the theater was purchased by Steve Reischman and Sally Custer in the early 90′s.

The Aladdin Theater has a capacity of 620 people. It serves beer, wine, and various other beverages as well as a variety of snack foods. Those looking for a full meal might want to check out Blue Dragonfly or Edelweiss Sausage Co & Delicatessen. The theater is located at 3017 SE Milwaukie Ave. in the Abernethy and Brooklyn neighborhood. Check out their website at aladdin-theater.com for more information.
